Why is this a Good Quote Chat Conversation?

  • Quotes are relevant and calculated to fit the conversation.
  • The conversation flows well.
  • Two points of reference have been used.
  • Dates have been included even when a quote generator cannot find exact date they have made the effort to at least use authors lifespan, or year born or circa the date. In an extreme case (such as the bible quote) they have put unknown year.
  • There are no anonymous quotes.
  • The quotes are all from commercial source.

What is Wrong with this Quote Chat Conversation?

  • Quotes are irrelevant and not calculated to fit the conversation.
  • The users have not given any dates.
  • The members are not acknowledging the quotes they are speaking as their voice.
  • There is no flowing conversation, just random irrelevant quotes.
  • One member has used a quote by Anonymous which is invalid.
  • The quote regarding the son of a member is invalid because the quote is from somebody the member knows.
  • The member who quotes themselves is invalid.
  • One of the Shakespeare quotes is obviously fake.
  • One member has quoted from a private blogsite, which is also a non commercial quote and invalid.

Preparing Speech

Tailor your quotes according to what interests you. Collect quotes that you will want to use later in conversation. You will grasp a better idea of the quotes that you need for flowing conversation the more you chat with other members.

Small talk basics are good to begin with. Collecting a few "greetings," "how are you" and "farewell" quotes are good for starters.

Categories

Type in the category you want to save your quote under so you can find it easily in the database for future reference. You can make up your own categories, you could have a "Kantian insults" quotes category or a "cheesy compliments" category, whatever suits your database. For a general idea, basic categories to begin with could be About Me, About You, About Them.

Keeping Up with the Pace of Quoting

It is difficult to keep up with the pace of a chatroom with more than two members at a time. It is easier to begin quote chat in a private chatroom to get used to the pace of chatting with one person at a time.

The Symbol ---

If you need more time to find a quote just type three dashes alone like this ---. This should indicate that you have a quote to respond but you just need a little bit of time to find the right quote. This symbol --- should buy you a minute or two to find what you want to say. If after a couple of minutes you still haven't found the right thing to say, the person you are conversing with may continue to chat (they can't wait forever.)

Use the --- symbol only when you desperately need to and only when the conversation is between you and one other person. If there are more than two people conversing the --- symbol is invalid. This is because it's impractical to make six people wait for one person to find the right thing to say. In the main chatroom you just have to try to keep up with the pace.

About Me Section

Fill in the "About Me" section with a series of quotes to describe yourself.

Here's an example:

"I was looking for a job and then I found a job and heaven knows I'm miserable now." - The Smiths, 1984."I'm a party girl with a bad habit." - Summer Heights High, 2007. "I go over people's heads. A bit like an aeroplane! You think I' m an aeroplane, don't you, … Well, I'm not" – The Young Ones, 1982. " I'm an artist after all" – Bucket of Blood, 1959. "And I got more juice than Picasso got paint" – Licensed to Ill, 1986.
